East London is a sophisticated contemporary Asian restaurant located above the iconic The London Hotel in Paddington.
Utilising modern cooking methods and fresh ingredients, East London delivers contemporary Asian cuisine with traditional Sichuan and Shanghainese flavours.
The venue references its Asian influence with sleek booths and a pared-back aesthetic. Exposed brick, timber and a neutral palette ensure that the focus is on the fresh and vibrant food, creating the perfect setting to enjoy a flavourful array of dumplings, share plates and cocktails.
The East London menu is designed for sharing and with so many tempting dishes, it’s the only way to explore the delicious options. Stand-out dishes include the Bug meat, prawn, chilli and Sichuan pepper wontons, the Bang Bang Chicken with ginger, sesame, chilli and peanuts as well as the Salt & Sichuan pepper tofu with mapo mayo. Our favourite however would have to be the San choi bau. Served up with prawns, snow peas and corn wrapped in crispy lettuce leaves, this is an outstanding starter full of flavour and leaves you wanting more.
The main meals are equally as appetising with options including the Master stock pork belly, crispy Chinese style chicken, Jack’s Creek skirt steak, Xo thin egg noodles, and our top pick, the Steamed fish with ginger, chilli, shallots, and soy broth. This classic Chinese fish recipe is so simple yet so incredibly delicious. This is Chinese comfort food at its best with a healthy point of difference.
Perfectly complementing East London’s fare, the cocktail bar mixes up a delightful variety of Asian inspired cocktails. Referencing the flavours of The East, the East London is sure to impress even the most astute cocktail lover, with ever-popular options including Firefly (chilli infused tequila, mango, yuzu and agave), Grow A Pear (Sailor Jerry spiced rum, pear puree, Frangelico, mint & cinnamon), or our favourite, the Salted Caramel Espresso Martini with Absolut Vodka, kahlua and fresh espresso.
