Fire & Ice is one of Manly’s hottest new restaurant’s bringing a new calibre of food to the tourist precinct. With its glorious waterfront views and fantastic atmosphere, locals and tourists will be flocking to this waterside destination for some time to come.
This latest stunning creation comes from the owners of Ribs and Rumps – the iconic Manly steakhouse which was sold back in 2007. The concept ‘Fire and Ice’ stems from the emphasis on flame-grilled specialty meats (Fire) in conjunction with fresh seafood and seafood platters (Ice). From super fresh seafood presented in ice trays to top quality steaks with different levels of ageing in beautifully displayed meat lockers, they have the best for the most discerning of connoisseurs.
The menu is literally huge – both physically and in diversity. There is everything from steaks, ribs and burgers to sushi and sashimi prepared in an open display kitchen with a dedicated sushi chef. There is even a seasonal seafood menu displayed on various sceens around the restaurant. The menu, the way the produce is displayed, cooked, presented and served is all pure theatre, unique and diverse.
On the “Fire” side of things, the star attraction has got to be their dry aged meats – which are aged for 4-6 weeks in order to enhance flavour and tenderise the cut. You are presented with an overwhelming smorgasbord of selections from Angus and wagyu, marble score and of course a variety of cuts artistically displayed in environment-controlled meat lockers for you to personally choose your meat. Another highlight is their ribs (choose from pork lamb or beef). Designed for sharing, they are basted and slow cooked in honey sauce, perfectly tender and guaranteed to induce finger licking.
When it comes to the “Ice”, you will see fresh seafood presented in a beautiful ice tray with the automated lid holding the freshest of diverse seafood (think fish crabs, lobsters, mussels, Octopus). Cold starter options include Tuna Tataki, Alaskan King Crab, Sashimi, and the outstanding Kingfish Ceviche marinated in lemon and lime, olive oil, chilis, capsicum, coriander and chives. Warmer choices include Scallops, Tempura Soft Shell Crab, Calamari Rings and our top pick – Garlic Prawns. Featuring the finest of Australian prawns pan fried in garlic butter and served on a bed of rice in a hot sizzle pot, these are simply delectable.
If you like your fish, you’re in luck as the restaurant aims to provide the freshest of fish “serving today’s catch today.” Depending on the day you visit, some of the options you might see include Sole, Seafood Curry, Whole Grilled Crayfish/Lobster, Seafood Tagliatelle, Seared Yellow Fin Tuna, and the mighty delicious Salmon served on a bed of cauliflower puree and salad. Crispy on the outside, moist on the inside – this is one you must try!
While you’re there, we highly recommend downing a cocktail (or three). They do a great Espresso Martini or try their signature “Fire” which infuses rum and raspberry…with a touch of overproof rum to light up the fire in you. Fire and Ice is a truly unique restaurant – the food is amazing, the staff are super friendly, and you won’t be forgetting about those distinctive displays in a hurry.
