Late Summer Sizzle

Late Summer Sizzle

Celebrate late summer with a unique musical cocktail of sensational tunes, hot tap dancing in a night where you’re guaranteed to have a good time. Featuring talents such as: Sydney cabaret bombshell and jazz siren, Edwina Blush; Paris based Australian tap dancer Ruby Boukabou (aka Jazmin Baret- The Paris Cats/ Le Shuffle Project); DJ Trevor Brown (Gypsy Dub Sound System/ Waiting for Guinness); Tim Bradley (Waiting for Guinness); John Maddox (bass) and special guests. Enjoy this evening of talented artists as they dish out a fusion of musical moods from hot jazz to gypsy swing; Latin grooves to dirty blues.

EDWINA BLUSH

Cabaret bombshell and Jazz siren, the sensational Edwina Blush continues to inspire audiences with her scandalous wit and vocal ingenuity. Hot jazz, cool jazz, gypsy swing, dirty blues, this little cat swings any old standard inside out and makes it BLUSH. Catch her quick in her hometown before she springs back to the steamy clubs of Asia.

TREVOR BROWN

Trevor is a musical dynamo, freelance composer, multi-instrumentalist, improviser, director, producer, sound designer and radio presenter. He crosses genres from jazz to electronica, experimental to world music. Trevor is known for Ju Ju Space Jazz, the groundbreaking electro acoustic jazz in the 90s, Meta Bass ‘n Breath, Australia’s seminal Hip-Hop collective, Waiting for Guinness festival-favourite political gypsy-folk-punk ensemble and Gypsy Dub Sound System. Trevor will also DJ at Late Summer Sizzle… so bring your dancing shoes.

RUBY BOUKABOU

Back home for summer after a few years of performing in Paris and North Africa, Ruby Boukabou (aka Jazmin Baret) has packed a pair (or four) of trusty tap shoes so that her trip can be peppered with tasty musical encounters. In Paris, Ruby co-directs the Paris Tap Crew and is a member of Le Shuffle Project and is also performing in Sydney with The Paris Cats at 505. Ruby was last at the Basement in 2012 with her successful cabaret show ‘Jazmin & Monsieur P’s Parisian Rendez Vous’, an acrobatic, operatic cabaret/burlesque extravaganza. This time she’s stripping it back to concentrate on simply great music and inspired tap dance.
