Neptunes, Brighton-Le-Sands

One of Brighton-Le-Sands most popular restaurants has recently undergone a multi-million dollar facelift. Since opening its doors in 1993, Neptunes has forged a successful name for itself, becoming somewhat of a community icon in the Brighton-Le-Sands vicinity.

While we recall it being a cosy little café with dark interiors, the new fit-out is much brighter and so much more inviting – it’s truly spectacular. Upon entering the sparkling lush space, we were in awe of the rejuvenation. Behind the revamp are award-winning designers DS-17 who have created an amazing space worth visiting.

Aesthetics aside, the food is what has kept Neptunes one of Brighton’s top cafés for the past two and a half decades. The menu is quite extensive and will require multiple visits before you get a chance to sample even half of it. Tasty starters include the Salt & Pepper Calamari, Buttermilk Chicken Bites, Oyster Pillows Tempura, Braised Angus Meatballs, Stuffed Zucchini Flowers, and our top pick, Grilled Harissa Garlic Prawns in a creamy sauce with confit garlic, fresh parsley, foccacia and cold pressed olive oil. Yum!

The mains feature traditional Mediterranean flavours with a Modern Australian edge. There’s BBQ Grilled Lamb & Chicken Breast Skewers, Succulent Rack of Baby Back BBQ Pork Ribs, Riverine Premium Scotch Fillet, Fish & Chips, burgers, extravagant fresh seafood platters and authentic pasta dishes which are hand-made daily. We sampled the Fettuccine Gamberi of Sauteed Prawns with confit chilli, napolitana sauce, majoron, lemon zest and cold pressed olive oil. A simple combination of flavours yet a multifaceted taste experience which had us licking the plate clean.

The renovation has also brought with it the addition of a state of the art wood-fire pizza oven. So if pizza is your thing, there’s an appetising selection of traditional Napoli style pizzas and Aussie favourites such as the Margherita, Capricciosa, Calabrese, Suprema, Quattro Formaggi, Sicilian and our pick of the bunch, Gamberia Fresh Prawns with chilli, confit garlic and pomodoro sugo. You could really tell the pizza here is house-made and hand-stretched – it’s fresh, delicious and just the way a pizza should be!

If you have room for dessert after all that, you’re in luck as Neptunes again have quite an extensive list to choose from including Sticky Date Pudding, Cappuccino Brulee, Tiramisu, Banoffee Waffle, wood-fired donuts, crepes, and more. But before you leave, you have to sample the Chocolate Semi Freddo with chocolate sauce, cookie crumble and strawberries. Rich, chocolatey, and super delicious, this is a must-try…and you’re welcome.

With its stunning new look, waterfront location and refreshed menu, Neptunes is THE place to visit in Brighton-Le-Sands.
