Nico: Authentic Italian Cuisine in Cammeray
For lovers of Italian food, the lower North Shore is a great place to be after the recent opening of Nico.
The Italian restaurant, headed up by General Manager Ewa Witkowska and Italian-born Executive Chef Nicola Ronconi, pays homage to the Amalfi coastline bringing its inviting colours and flavours to Cammeray.
As you first walk in, you see Nico’s light-filled dining space featuring warm timber hues, dusty terracotta, and royal blue which will instantly catch your eye. The open-kitchen-banquet-seating style venue is successfully treading the line of casual cooking meets fine dining where guests are not merely fed, but enveloped in culinary delight.
As in Italy, where pasta is fresh, seafood is plentiful, aperitifs are poured in frosted glasses, Nico’s carefully curated menu makes choosing a dish quite difficult. Something we can certainly attest to as there are plenty of delicious options to consider. You could start with Homemade Focaccia and smoked butter. Move to Sicilian Cannolo, salmon, and flying fish roe. Or savour a serving of Gigli, friarielli, sausage ragu and fermented chilli.
For something totally refreshing, we’d highly recommend the Handmade Burrata – a vibrant dish combining the creamy and milky flavour of burrata with the sweetness of beetroot and persimmon to create something that is exceptionally tasty! Or the Fremantle Octopus which is topped with buffalo yoghurt, nduja and baby peppers and delivers a flavour-packed delight with every bite.
For the main dish, you could dive into the Risotto with pumpkin, gorgonzola and chestnuts, tackle a Snapper fillet or Pork Cotoletta or get into the delicious Spaghetti with spanner crab, crustacean sauce and zucchini. But our top pick is the outstanding Calamaratta with sun dried tomatoes, SA squid and white wine. Rich, decadent and completely scrumptious.
When it comes to dessert, options include the tasty Snickers, an Affogato upside down or the delectable Lemon Tiramisu which is arguably the hero on the menu. This very zesty take on a traditional crowd favourite is something uniquely different. Rich, creamy, tangy and the perfect way to end your meal on a high.
If you’re looking for a dining deal that will allow you to enjoy a night out without breaking the bank, Tuesdays are about to become a highlight of the week at Nico. “Ciao Pasta Tuesday” is a new offering this winter where $29 will get you a plate of select pasta and a glass of wine. With the pastas rotating weekly, it’s a deal well worth going out for!
Nico is a top restaurant that merges fine dining and family cooking with in-season product at the heart of it all. Between the starters, fresh seafood, housemade pasta, and aperitifs, a trip to Nico offers a warm and welcoming escape for Sydneysiders.
JULY 2024 – It’s officially truffle season, and Nico is celebrating by hosting a special winter truffle dinner for two nights only this July: the 10th and the 24th. This exclusive event features a decadent six-course menu that showcases the rich and aromatic flavours of truffles in every dish. For $99 per person, guests can look forward to focaccia and truffle burrata, followed by zucchino flower trufflericotta, tagliatelle with smoked butter and truffle, truffle polenta with lamb rump, and concludes with a delightful truffle tiramisu.
