Former Stone Temple Pilots frontman Scott Weiland has been found dead at 48.
According to a just-released statement, Weiland was asleep on a tour bus ahead of a show in Minnesota when he passed away.
The Grammy-winning performer had a history of substance abuse issues and high profile splits with former bands: Stone Temple Pilots and later Velvet Revolver. His latest band, Scott Weiland and the Wildabouts, were booked to play some US shows this month before the tragedy occured.
This latest shock follows other high profile grunge frontmen from the 1990s that met an early demise including Kurt Cobain (Nirvana) and Layne Staley (Alice In Chains). Weiland leaves behind a wife of two years.
