The tenth instalment of triple j’s hugely successful LIKE A VERSION compilations has been released through ABC Music / Universal.
LIKE A VERSION 10 features all your best-loved triple j artists covering acoustic versions of their favourite songs – often thought-provoking, always entertaining, and all recorded live on triple j Breakfast. The CD/DVD package follows on from last year’s ARIA Chart-topper, which made history for ABC Music by becoming the label’s first ever ARIA mainstream Album Chart No.1.
“Can you believe it? It’s been 10 years since some bright spark at triple j said “yeeeahh, that song’s okaaaaayyyy but it’d sound better if someone else did it”, says Alex Dyson (triple j Breakfast). “Thus, LIKE A VERSION was born, and here we are, in no small part thanks to you, in double figures. And what a tenth year it was! Alex Turner from Arctic Monkeys decided to stick with the ADJECTIVE/ANIMAL theme and cover local boys Tame Impala. Speaking of which, Glass Animals gave us a sensual cover of Kanye ‘Yeezus’ West, in some people’s eyes bettering a song that in other people’s eyes (Kanye’s) is perfect. The theme of love continued when First Aid Kit duetted their way through Jack White’s ‘Love Interruption’, whereas Chet Faker’s lover didn’t treat him no good no more. Luckily, he treated Sonia Dada’s track of the same name a lot better with his smooth as silk take on the 90’s classic”.
This year’s collection also features performances by Àsgeir covering Milky Chance, Briggs (feat. Gurrumul) with their version of ‘The Children Came Back’, Lorde’s take on James Blake’s ‘Retrograde’ and versions from Karnivool, Chet Faker, Dan Sultan, John Butler Trio and more all captured on CD/DVD.
