Tully Smyth leads Sydney Memory Walk with Souvenaid

With over $299,000 raised so far in this year’s Sydney Memory Walk & Jog run by Dementia Australia, there were over a thousand participants on the day and more than 60 teams rallying together to beat dementia!

With Souvenaid as the proud sponsor of the event, and with the help of its star-studded team, featuring Big Brother star Tully Smyth, NRL legend Jason Stevens and wife Beck and Aussie influencer mum Chantelle Ellem – the team marched on to raise awareness and educate the community on access to intervention like Souvenaid.

Joining in on the day, Tully Smyth flew down to Sydney with her friends and family raising a whopping total of $33,142 and coming in first place!

Tully rallied alongside her dad, family and friends, taking out first place and honouring her mum who was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease at age 51 and sadly passed away from early onset dementia. Tully was just 15 years old when Kay Smith was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s and spent the next 16 years helping her father care for her. Every year she steps up and attends the walk in honour of not only the significant cause but the effect it has to careers.

Tully was also joined by other team Souvenaid stars including NRL legend turned film maker, Jason Stevens participating in honour of his wife Beck Stevens grandmother, with their ‘miracle baby’, now four-year-old son Presley, after being told she could never conceive.

In Australia, dementia remains as the leading cause of death for women and the second leading cause of death nationwide. It is important to not only know the signs but to be aware of early intervention when it comes to reducing the risk of brain related health issues developing into dementia, like Alzheimer’s disease and mild cognitive impairment.
