SNAP!

Snap! is a German eurodance/hip-hop/pop project formed in 1989 by Frankfurt-based producers Michael Münzing and Luca Anzilotti.  The act has been through a number of line-up changes over the years, but it was most successful when fronted by rapper Turbo B, who performed on the U.K. number 1 singles ‘The Power’ and ‘Rhythm Is a Dancer.’ Michael Münzing and Luca Anzilotti formed Snap! in 1989.  Their first hit ‘The Power,’ was a combination of house and hip hop elements.  The rap was re-recorded by Turbo B and additional vocals were recorded by Penny Ford and Jocelyn Brown. The single rocketed to number 2 in Germany in March 1990, and spent two weeks at number 1 in the UK, becoming the first rap single to top the chart.  It later reached number 2 on the Billboard Hot 100, and was certified platinum, whilst achieving Gold status in Australia. Penny became the band’s full-time lead singer, recording the second single ‘Ooops Up,’ a re-working of ‘I Don’t Believe You Want to Get Up and Dance (Oops!),’ a 1980 hit by The Gap Band, with which Penny was a former backing singer.  With drum samples from ‘Paid in Full’ by Eric B & Rakim, it was another number 2 hit in Germany and charted at number 5 in the UK, whilst also achieving Gold status in Australia. ‘Rhythm Is a Dancer’ was released with a backing-track inspired by ‘Automan’ by early-80s electronic hip-hop band Newcleus.  It went on to become their biggest hit yet, spending six weeks at number 1 in the UK, also topping the charts in France, Germany, Netherlands and Italy, and peaking at number 5 in the U.S. in early 1993, Top 3 in Australia and going Gold.

CORONA

Olga de Souza artistically known as Corona was born in Rio de Janeiro in a musical family, her father being a musician and her mother a singer, music has been her passion ever since she was young.  In 1994 she debut with ‘The Rhythm of the night’ which stayed at number one in the top ten Italian charts for 13 consecutive weeks. In England within weeks ‘The Rhythm of the night’ topped the charts and was the best selling album, with more than 1,000,000 copies sold. The song became the catchphrase for that summer and Corona was the most sought after artist. She attained 15 gold and platinum discs. Within months Corona became the undisputed queen of dance music globally. The consecutive single releases were equally successful, ‘Baby Baby’, ‘Try me out,’ (both achieving Gold status together with ‘Rhythm of the Night’ & all were Top 10 hits in Aus) & ‘I Don’t Wanna be a Star’

CULTURE BEAT

The story of Culture Beat is tightly connected to the history of German Dancefloor.  For more than 20 years Culture Beat are receiving worldwide recognition and many millions of records and downloads sold are solid proof. Their smash single ‘Mr. Vain’ (#1 & Platinum in Aus) was a worldwide hit in 1993 – scoring at No.1 in as many as 13 countries (among them Germany, The U.K. and France) and became a club classic.  Equally successful was the album ‘Serenity’ (#1 & Gold in Aus) – with its additional singles: ‘Got To Get It’ (Top 10 & Gold in Aus) and ‘Anything’ (#12 & Gold in Aus).  An album that many experts judge as a milestone in the history of dance. Culture Beat was founded in 1989 by the late Torsten Fenslau – a DJ at the legendary Dorian Gray Club in Frankfurt.  After his tragic death in a car accident at the end of 1993 his younger brother Frank took over Culture Beat.

C + C MUSIC FACTORY

C+C Music Factory was a dance music group (led by Robert Clivilles and David Cole) that brought a hybrid form of house music, scoring several massive pop hits all over the world during the early 1990’s.  Their 1990 debut album, Gonna Make You Sweat included four hugely popular singles, the most famous of them being ‘Gonna Make You Sweat (Everybody Dance Now)’ (Top 3 Aus hit).  Subsequent releases such as ‘Here We Go Let’s Rock & Roll’ (Top 20 in Aus) and ‘Things That Make You Go Hmmm….’ (also went Top 6 in Aus) confirmed them as dance music’s most successful act of the day. Clivillés and Cole had recorded dance music under other names, and had showcased different vocalists prior to starting their C+C Music Factory project.  Their production work for the group Seduction is the most well-known of these earlier endeavours.  After the huge success of their debut, they became highly sought after producers and worked with Mariah Carey, Lisa Lisa and Cult Jam, Whitney Houston, and James Brown amongst others. The band stopped recording in 1996, following Cole’s death.  In 2010, C+C Music Factory reformed, with Eric Kupper replacing Cole. Original vocalist Freedom Williams acquired trademark rights to the name in 2003 and still tours under that moniker. C+C Music Factory have earned a total of 35 music industry awards worldwide, including five Billboard Awards, five American Music Awards and two MTV Video Music Awards.
