Rooting Out The Hidden Gems Of Queensland

Rooting Out The Hidden Gems Of Queensland

With its world-class beaches, tropical islands, and fair share of iconic attractions, there’s always something to see in Queensland, but there’s even more for those who are willing to peer a little further under the surface. If you’ve been a few times before and you want to discover something new, or you simply like to go to those places that might not be seen by as many, then here are a few gems you can unearth.

Carnarvon Gorge

One of the most impressive natural attractions of the state, Carnarvon Gorge in Central Queensland, still doesn’t see as many visitors as the coastal destinations. The looming sandstone cliffs and lush vegetation offer some fantastic nature photography opportunities, while the ancient indigenous rock art sites can feel like you’re reaching through the ages just by looking at them. With a host of hotspots like the Moss Garden and Cathedral Cave to visit, it’s certainly one of the more diverse natural beauty hotspots in the area, and it offers a sense of tranquillity that the more crowded areas might not.

Childers

If you want something a little more civilised than a day out in the wilderness, then the lovely historic town of Childers is well worth more than a fleeting stop. Often used by travellers to pass through on their way elsewhere, this town is most notable for its host of heritage buildings and a thriving art scene. There are all manner of charming cafes, galleries, and speciality stores that can be perfect for those looking to pick up a souvenir that isn’t quite as cliche as a postcard. Local wineries and countryside drives can help you see some of the best of Queensland’s more gently beautiful side.

The Lesser Seen Sunshine Coast

The Sunshine Coast is by no means a hidden gem, but there are plenty of parts of it that can be overlooked for the more tourist-ready beaches. Some of the better bus tours Queensland can take you to hotspots like Noosa, sure, but you can also explore the Hinterland towns like Maleny and Montville for some absolutely stunning mountain views and boutique shopping. Small coastal communities like Pergian Beach offer just as much beautiful scenery, but with a more relaxed atmosphere, better for romantic walks than sunning amongst the crowds.

Paronella Park

Jaw-dropping gorgeous, Paronella Park features castle-like ruins amongst a host of lush gardens and waterfalls. The camp has on-site cabins as well as grounds for setting up your own camp. In the day, you can wander the grounds, learning about the park’s history, and enjoy a combination of architecture and nature unlike anything you’re going to see anywhere else. Alongside its guided tours, turtle feeding experiences, and botanical garden, it also offers a lovely museum dedicated to the family of Spanish immigrant José Paronella, who built the park.

Queensland never stops offering up interesting, beautiful, and exciting places to visit, so make sure that you make the most of your trip with the help of the tips above.
