Australia’s first Ginger Rally
Last week, rangas and bloodnuts at heart flocked to The Standard Bowl, Surry Hills for Australia’s first Ginger Rally. It was a night of ginger-themed food (sushi or ginger prawns, anyone?), cocktails (Captain Jack’s Redbeard was a hit), and enough laughs to get your fanta pants off (at the expense of everyone but the gingers in the room)!
As well as the ginger-themed food, Buderim’s new Boutique Ginger Beer saw guests taste-buds tingling throughout the night.
Just under 150 Masterchef contestants, bloggers, musos and models made their way to the hippest soiree in town, including Big Brother’s Michael Beveridge, celeb DJs The Faders, Kylie Millar, Louize Scott, Christina Batista and Griffen Avis-Foster.
During the evening of the blood-nut moon (as we like to call it), there was a barber turning the boys into gentlemen, a dessert bar (with toffee ginger popcorn and dark chocolate-coated ginger) a tattoo station (we’re told they’re only temporary…) and a photo-booth (complete with all the wigs and accessories to get ginger-fied).
The night brought in the launch of The Ginger Net, a special cyber-space designed for all things Ranga! The Ginger Net, the home of the search for Australia’s Hottest Ginger – a competition leaving no Ginger ignored, from your pet goldfish to your ginger beard.
For all those who missed out on the action, we’ve included a recipe for one of our exclusive cocktails, Captain Jack’s Redbeard – guaranteed to put some ginger hair on your chest.
Ingredients
250ml Buderim Ginger Beer
45ml Jack Daniel’s Tennessee Honey
2 Lime Wedges
2 Mint Sprigs
Method
Build and stir the Jack Daniel’s and Buderim Ginger Beer in a high glass.
Squeeze the limes into the concoction.
Pound the mint leaves to release the flavour and add them to the liquid.
Give one last swish of the drink and enjoy!
