A wine and art collaboration between Grant Burge Wines and popular illustration artist Alex Lehours to launch the new range of Barossa Ink wines has led to the creation of two original ‘wine-infused’ contemporary artworks – which are being given away for Father’s Day.
Alex’s work is best described as an explosion of chaos, humour and absolute randomness and this time he has brought that ethos to life by hand-painting the pieces with a bespoke ink he created by mixing Barossa Ink wine into it.
Leading Barossa wine label Grant Burge commissioned Alex to create the art series to launch its new range of Barossa Ink wines which features a Shiraz and Cabernet Sauvignon.
Barossa Ink is the product of a challenge set down by the Grant Burge winemaking team to come up with the most vibrant and impactful wines possible. The result is two intense and opulent wines from the heart of the Barossa, with a colour so dark that it almost looks like ink – hence the collaboration.
The original A2 sized Alex Lehours creations (each valued at $3,000) are being given away now on the Grant Burge Wines Facebook page and will be won by two lucky winners.
The designs have also been reproduced into a limited edition run of Father’s Day gift cards. These are being given away as runner-up prizes along with a bottle of Grant Burge Barossa Ink wine and there are 50 up for grabs. The competition is live until 28th August.
Alex said the idea was to create some artwork that was not only unique but forged a strong relationship between the paintings and the product.
“In order to achieve this, I mixed some of the Barossa Ink wine into my paint, creating a dark, almost ink-like formula.
I wanted each piece to symbolise a positive representation of Father’s all across the country so I decided to combine strong imagery with words such as noble, heroic, great and strong.
“A piece of art is always a memorable gift and I am very grateful to have been able to work with Barossa Ink on such a special project,” said Alex.
Barossa Ink is available at Dan Murphy’s and BWS stores nationwide (RRP $18.99).
