Bastille Day Party celebrates diversity
On Thursday 14 July (2022), the Alliance Française de Sydney – in partnership with numerous organisations in the Franco-Australian community – is welcoming the return of its annual Bastille Day celebration hosted at the heritage-listed premises of the Argyle.
In addition to its usual fanfare of festivities, food, music and dancing, this year’s special theme – Around the World – will transport revellers not only to France, but also to New Caledonia, Tahiti and West Africa. This is the first time this annual French celebration seeks to look beyond the borders of France and turn its gaze towards the beauty and vibrancy of French-speaking neighbours and destinations.
“This year’s Bastille Day celebrates French and Francophone cultures in all their richness and diversity,” says Lyn Tuit, President of the Board at the Alliance Française de Sydney.
The entertainment for this memorable evening includes the Afrobeat dance music of a live 5-piece band, led by legendary Malian guitarist Moussa Diakite; a melodic mix from the French pop culture zeitgeist, spanning the 80s until now, from Parisian-born DJ Madame Rêve; and thrilling performances by French Polynesian and Cancan dancers.
The event will also welcome a French food stall for guests to enjoy delicious crêpes from Four Frogs, including one designed exclusively for the evening, La creole, made with burned pineapple, Rum and homemade caramel sauce, topped with toasted coconuts flakes. In addition, guests will also have the opportunity to try the evening’s signature cocktail, the Caledonia Colada, made with Rum, Malibu, orange, pineapple and lemon.
There will also be the opportunity to win fantastic prizes on the night such as a luxurious vacation to the Pacific heart, New Caledonia; an indulgent stay at Sofitel Wentworth and much more.
The Alliance Française de Sydney is grateful for the commitment and support of City of Sydney through their CBD Activation Grant, aimed at activating spaces with cultural programming.
