Ben Hazlewood Profile

Ben Hazlewood Profile

Former The Voice contestant Ben Hazlewood chats with Sydney Unleashed.

How did you get your start in the music industry?

I had my first real break when I moved to London to be a part of my old band. I had an amazing opportunity to work with people like Wayne Hector and Steve Mac who have written and produced for people like Britney Spears, PCD, Rihanna, Nicki Minaj, and others. It was the first time working with some who had some very real connections and I learnt a hell of a lot from both of them.

Best part of what you do?

Best part of what I do is getting up on stage and performing one of my own songs and seeing people singing my lyrics along with me.

And the worst part?

Coming back from shooting a video or tour or gig and not having much to do. I go crazy when I’m not writing or singing.

Any interesting experiences you can share of your time on The Voice?

There were a lot of interesting times throughout the show. It’s a very surreal thing to be a part of. The best was seeing how all of it works behind the scenes. You see what you see on TV, then times that by 100 and that’s what’s going on to get such a massive production to come together and look so amazing

What have you been doing since then?

Since the show I have been writing like crazy and have now just released my first EP, LOVELESS.

Favourite album of all time and why?

Elie Goulding – ‘Starry Eyed’. It was the first time I had heard the type of production she was doing and I started writing harder after I heard her melodies and lyrics.

Best live performance that you’ve ever seen?

Definitely  U2. They blow my mind!

Favourite bars/clubs/pubs to hang out in?

I usually hang out in places with live music. There are a lot of them around Sydney so that’s probably where you would find me.

Take us through a typical day in the life of Ben Hazlewood.

I don’t think I have a “typical” day. Everything is ALWAYS different everyday, even when you think you know what’s coming, it pretty much always changes. Right now I’m just doing a lot of gigs and promo around the new EP. The only thing that stays consistent is that I wake up and shower!

What are your plans for the rest of the year?

Continue to push this EP and gig as much as I can. Hopefully everyone will start hearing my music very soon.

Any news or final comments?

Loveless EP out now on iTunes.
