Christmas at Queen Victoria Building
Sydney’s Queen Victoria Building (QVB) is gearing up for Christmas with a whole host of activities happening in the coming weeks.
A variety of performers will be working as Christmas Porters and will be putting a smile on the faces of passers-by as they shop at the famous historical building. Handpicked by Sydney Fringe, the performers are from an array of backgrounds including musical theatre artists and award winning swing dancers. They’ll be wearing tailored outfits created by Nicole Bonython-Hines who drew references from traditional bell-hop outfits from the 1930s and 40s, with gold ornate buttons, gold braid, pill-box hats and double breasted jackets.
Visitors will also be able to visit Santa and take some family photos…even pets are welcome to join the annual family Christmas photo this year! But one QVB experience we can’t recommend enough is the Christmas High Tea happening at the famous Tea Room. This exquisite experience of indulgence is the perfect way to treat someone special to a true sense of occasion. Located on Level 3 in the grand ballroom, the Tea Room is simply stunning with a real elegance featuring high ornate windows which reflect the beauty of the room.
The Festive High Tea menu features a delectable selection of sweet and savoury petit fours, finger sandwiches and house made scones with preserve and clotted cream. Savoury options include smoked salmon blini, chives, capers and rocket, leek and thyme quiche, savoy cabbage and lardons, chicken and pork terrine and piccalilli with dark rye sourdough. On the sweet side, there’s cherry crumble and tonka tartlet, dark fruits and chestnut layer cake, macadamia and dulce de leche cake and a very special ‘Santa Choux’ to top it all off.
All are served with Ronnefeldt tea or espresso coffee. And if you like a tipple, you can enhance your experience by selecting a glass of Australian sparkling or Champagne. Bottoms up! The Festive High Tea is a great experience you won’t forget in a hurry and is available daily until December 24. Get in quick!
