In Cockroaches, Detective Harry Hole arrives in a steaming hot Bangkok. When commissioned by a publisher to write a memoir about life on the road with his band, he instead came up with the plot for his first Harry Hole crime novel, The Bat. Published in Norway in 1997, it was an instant hit and won the prestigious Glass Key Award for Best Nordic Crime Novel of the Year, an accolade shared with Henning Mankell and Stieg Larsson, and launched Jo Nesbo’s international writing career.
