The Middle Names Touring

There’s something about the isolation of the island state which allows complex and unique creativity. The Tasmanians might face issues with limited touring, limited opportunities and a strait of water between them and the rest of the music industry, but sometimes the artistic end trumps the logistical roadblocks. The Middle Names have proven this with their debut album “I Need Space”, featuring the new single “Remember Me At All”.

Spending a month in Queensland to work with renowned producer Magoo (Regurgitator, The Jungle Giants, Midnight Oil) at Applewood Lane studios in 2013, “I Need Space” is the album that almost didn’t happen. Days before leaving for Queensland, the band were rehearsing at vocalist Ben’s house/studio when a fire sparked and spread. The band escaped safely with only the instruments in their hands, but the house and all of Ben’s possessions were lost.

Not only did the recording of their debut album “I Need Space” mark a new phase of The Middle Names’ musical career, it also marked the closing of a chapter with the fire creating a cathartic full stop between their reality as one of Tasmania’s most respected acts and their future as one of Australia’s. Coming from playing some of Australia’s best festivals (FallsFestival Marion Bay, Dark MoFo, BIGSOUND), and supporting the likes of Ball Park Music, San Cisco, The Jungle Giants, Snakadaktal, and Husky, The Middle Names were ready to finally make their mark, because they had nothing left to lose.

A catchy mix of jangly guitars, boy/girl vocals, pop hooks and rock riffs, the new single“Remember Me At All” brings their unique Tasmanian quirk to the indie genre and proves that when it comes to rock and roll, the term “pop” doesn’t have to be a dirty word. The Middle Names bringin elements of 90’s rock lyricism, with a touch of San Cisco pop charm and a pub-rock attitude.
