The London Hotel
Situated just a few blocks from bustling Oxford Street, The London Hotel has been one of Paddington’s favourite watering holes since 1875.
Offering locals a cosy and vibrant destination to socialise, savour a great bite to eat, unwind and enjoy the friendly atmosphere, it has really stood the test of time. We recently ventured out to this quintessential neighbourhood pub to see what all the fuss is about.
Housed in a quaint, Paddington style double storey building, The London Hotel firmly holds its place as a local icon. While the hotel’s traditional charm remains the focal point, it delivers a contemporary take on old-school pub fare complete with an extensive wine list.
The menu features a selection of classic pub style dishes such as Bangers ‘n’ Mash, 250g Rump Steak, 200g Eye Fillet, Chicken Schnitzel, Fish & Chips, a large assortment of pizzas and burgers, salads and greens, and a variety of snacks. There is certainly no shortage of tempting dishes to savour on your own or share with friends.
On the Snacks menu, we highly recommend the Squid (chilli salt, lemon, and aioli) and the Fish Tacos (crispy barramundi, chipotle mayo, slaw). You’ll be licking your fingers clean after trying these crowd-pleasers. If you prefer a healthier option, then you’re in luck as the salads are just as outstanding. We tried the Beetroot salad with rocket, pear, goats cheese, and walnuts. A heavenly mix that is both filling and satisfying. The Roast Pumpkin salad is also to die for with rocket, quinoa, Persian feta, sunflower and pumpkin seeds. Yum!
For the main, we couldn’t go past the Roast Market Fish (salmon on the night we visited) with Jerusalem artichoke puree, greens, radish, and kipfler potato. The salmon was deliciously crispy on the outside and moist and tender on the inside. A beautiful dish and well worth a try.
The London Hotel is the ultimate neighbourhood pub and boasts a fantastic courtyard with retractable awning for year-round enjoyment. With summer just around the corner, it’ll be the perfect place to gather with friends and family to enjoy a beer and burger, round of pizzas or a great steak whilst soaking up the sunshine.
