This year, triple j’s One Night Stand took over Mildura, a gorgeous town on the Murray River where over 17,000 locals and visitors joined hundreds of thousands of listeners tuning in on the radio and TV. With five of Australia’s most exciting acts hitting the stage on the night and completely blowing punters away, this year’s event was among the best ever!
triple j’s One Night Stand Mildura CD/DVD features live tracks from indie-electro outfit RÜFÜS, rockers Violent Soho, Brissie four-piece The Jungle Giants and the ever-impressive Dan Sultan. Melbourne hip-hop artist Illy got the crowd jumping when he was joined on-stage by a couple of very special surprise guests, including Drapht to perform ‘YoYo’ and Vance Joy for a rendition of his #1 Hottest 100 song ‘Riptide’. Special guests Kingswood joined Dan Sultan during his set, Magic Dirt’s Raul Sanchez shredded up a storm for Violent Soho, and Sydney’s Nicole Millar jumped on-stage with RÜFÜS to reprise her vocals in ‘Unforgiven’.
Every year, triple j takes some of Australia’s finest musicians to a regional town, usually starved of live music, to put on a free, all ages concert, the likes of which the area has never seen before.
In the past the One Night Stand has been to places like Dubbo, Alice Springs, Tumby Bay, Dalby and Sale with acts like Flume, Hilltop Hoods, Silverchair, 360, John Butler Trio, The Living End, Birds of Tokyo, Matt Corby, Pnau, Arts vs Science, Bluejuice, The Jezabels, Washington, Stonefield, The Rubens and heaps more.
