Meet Mica, Surry Hills
With cafes on almost every corner, trendy Surry Hills epitomises Sydney cafe culture. And on the southern end you will find one of its finest, Meet Mica. After making its way into the 2019 Good Food Guide as one of the Top 20 cafes in Sydney, you know you’re in for a treat when you pop in for a visit.
With a clear Japanese influence, you can expect creative and innovative options on the all-day breakfast and lunch menu. Each dish appears to be meticulously presented, with bold flavours and Japanese twists. Highlights on the breakfast menu include the Eggs Benedict on Fried Bao with soft poached eggs on crispy fried bao, tempura nori, baby spinach and rich yuzu hollandaise with miso butter bacon, the Teriyaki Hotdog which is loaded with hot dog sausage, cheesy omelette, teriyaki sauce and coleslaw sprinkled with katsuobushi flake on a soft milk bun roll, and the Avo, Poached Eggs & Rye with avocado slice, lime and avo puree, heirloom tomato, and poached eggs with rye toast making for a delicious start to the day.
With brunch and lunch available from 10am, you have a full menu of treats to choose from. There’s the Crab & Egg Croissant, a buttery, flaky croissant loaded with silky soft scrambled eggs, crab meat and buttered corn, topped with fish roe. Or try the Lobster Stock Congee for something out of the ordinary with flamed lobster tail, slow-cooked egg, katsuobushi crush and green shallots.
We also can’t recommend the Pumpkin & Zucchini Tempura highly enough featuring curried butternut pumpkin puree, zucchini and zucchini flower tempura, shichimi rice pop, baby carrots, baby corn, carrot leaves and pumpkin seed oil. A delightful mix of flavours that is healthy and super tasty.
For something a little naughtier, get your teeth into the Matcha French Lava Toast. This one’s been a mainstay on the brunch menu since the beginning and it’s no surprise to see why. One slice into the green Matcha infused French toast unleashes condensed milk ‘lava’, dusted with strawberry dust and a side of fresh fruit. It makes for a finger-licking good experience.
Wash it all down with a variety of drink options including tea, delicious coffee brewed by Reuben Hills or a cold-pressed juice. And if you’re feeling daring, try one of the more unusual additions such as ‘The Sunrise’ with caramel cream, Japanese lemonade and yuzu puree or a refreshing berry mint punch with berry puree, mint, lemonade and strawberries. You can’t go wrong!
With its excellent food choices, top-notch coffee and friendly service, it might be time for you to Meet Mica.
