Miji Bar & Grill Brings Japan To North Sydney
Miji Bar & Grill is a new Japanese izakaya (casual bar that serves food and alcohol) that has just opened its doors in North Sydney.
This cosy restaurant specialises in grilled seafood and fine sake that will instantly transport you straight to the streets of Tokyo.
Miji’s flashing neon lights and floor-to-ceiling windows can’t be missed and comes complete with signage imported from Japan, a replica Shinjuku Arch and a menu featuring traditional favourites like king crab, seafood rice, and hibachi.
However, Miji is more than flashing lights and a lively atmosphere. The restaurant prides itself on providing a dining experience that captures the essence of Japan while making things their own, from the food on the table to the drinks at the bar.
Head Chef Jacob Lee has honed his culinary skills all over the world and delivers a menu that focuses on the basics done properly, elevated with a creative twist. “I bring my influence by combining meticulous technique with fresh, high-quality ingredients to reimagine classic dishes in unique and exciting ways, ensuring every plate is both familiar and surprising,” says Lee.
Menu highlights include the MB4 Wagyu Sirloin, Grilled King Crab Leg and the delicious Rainbow Trout which is perfectly accompanied with yuzu butter sauce, salmon roe and chives resulting in a burst of flavours that you just can’t resist.
Other standouts include the Kingfish Crudo, Fresh Rock Oyster and Beef Tartare from the Raw menu as well as the finger-licking good Karaage Don (chicken karaage, onsen tamago, sichimi) and super tasty Salmon Don (cured salmon, onion, tobiko, soy, kelp mayo) from the Donburi Rice Bowl.
Our top pick however would have to be the outstanding Kanimiso Okonomi. With kanimiso, salmon roe, scallop, crab meat and eggyolk mixed with maze rice, it’s a seafood lovers dream that’s just full of flavour. An exquisite combination that’s totally insta-worthy, delectable and will have you coming back for more!
To wash it all down, you can enjoy a drink from their very creative cocktail menu. You can try the Doraemon (apple sake, vodka, blue curaçao, coconut cream, coconut water, marshmallow) or even pour your own at the self-serve wine bar. Pre-loaded with a selection of 24 wines, sakes and mocktails, a pre-paid membership card is used to tap, pay and pour.
Miji Bar & Grill provides a truly authentic Japanese experience – but on a larger scale – with the same traditional food and drinks but in a space where people from all walks can gather. Add it to your list of fun venues to explore when you’re next in North Sydney.
