Woollahra welcomes Phoenix Woollahra to its roster of iconic pubs and restaurants, bringing a Mediterranean flair at the helm of Greek-Australian brothers, William, Alex and Andrew Cooney.
On the evening of Tuesday, 8th December, Phoenix welcomed media, VIPs and celebrities to celebrate the launch of the newly refurbished venue. Celebrity guests included MTV’s Krit Schmidt, singer Casey Burgess, presenters Candice Dixon & Scott Tweedie, Instagram star Pia Muehlenbeck and Aidan Guerra with pregnant fiancé Belinda Bartholomew-Walsh.
Guests enjoyed curated canapés including Beef Carpaccio en croute, Miniature Lamb Gyros, Chorizo with Romesco Sauce en croute, Spanakopita (spinach pie), Saganaki Prawns followed by Watermelon Granita. Beverages included their naughty “I Carried a Watermelon” which featured Sauza Tequila shaken with a hint of sweetness and garnished with fresh mint and Coopers beer, Espresso Martinis, sparkling and white wine was also on offer while guests danced to the tunes of DJ Luke Petty.
The Phoenix Hotel has been a beloved staple for locals and visitors alike with a long history dating back to 1881. The three brothers have stayed true to this Eastern Suburbs landmark by naming the newly refurbished venue, Phoenix Woollahra. The space is a contemporary take on the traditional Greek restaurant, featuring a cosy dining room, main bar and casual eatery. The floor plan is flexible to cater to functions and events on any size.
Inspired by the brothers Greek-Australian heritage, the menu has been created to emphasize fresh, local and seasonal produce. Phoenix Woollahra’s Head Chef, Nick Alexeeff, brings his wealth of experience as a Bondi favourite at Brown Sugar and his love of Mediterranean food to create this melting pot menu, designed to share and enjoy amongst friends and family.
“We want our customers to feel they can come here many times a week to enjoy a quiet drink at the bar, a full meal or a light snack in our many dining areas,” said William Cooney, General Manager and Licensee.
Phoenix is open for lunch and dinner: Tuesday to Thursday, 4pm to 11pm; Friday and Saturday, 12pm to 11pm and Sunday, 12pm to 10pm. Functions and events packages are available upon request for small and large groups including banquet and canapé style settings.
