SAVO: Focus
Focus is everything for fast-rising Queensland talent, Savo in 2014. Returning to his home in the lush tropics after a stint in Sydney, the last 12 months have been productive for the small cane farming town of Innisfail’s finest hip-hop talent. Since the launch of his long-awaited mixtape Worth The Wait in April 2013, which topped over 46,000 downloads (and counting), the 21-year-old emcee has been hard at work putting the finishing touches on his first official release, Focus.
The EP features production by Cam Bluff (Illy, Spit Syndicate, 360) and a slew of international producers. Effortlessly traversing between classic hip-hop vibes, slow jams and modern, electro-inspired club anthems without breaking so much as a sweat, Focus displays the full spectrum of raw talent on display from this Far North Queensland innovator. Unlike Worth The Wait, not every lyric on Focus is a punchline, the content is coming from a deeper and more mature place.
The first single “Really Do It” featuring fellow Innisfail product Greta Stanley on vocals is more reflective lyrically than in times past, but he plays his full hand on tracks like “Fall Down”, “Lost Myself” and “Faded On A Monday”. The razor sharp wit and on-point delivery is still there, but this time round, he’s diving into much more complex and reflective lyrical territory. Sav is the first to admit bringing together the first full-length release happened at a time of personal struggle in his life – but the end result is truly something special.
