The Lord Roberts Hotel in Darlinghurst celebrates 125 years
The Lord Roberts Hotel is an historic pub located in the vibrant Stanley Street dining precinct.
The Darlinghurst institution is celebrating its 125th birthday with a refreshed venue and a month-long nostalgic menu, paying tribute to over a century as the local favourite corner pub.
For a limited time only, they’re serving a throwback menu, featuring fairy bread, chicken kiev, Bunnings-style sausage tacos and a Gaytime-inspired cocktail – all offered at genuine retro pricing starting from $10!
The anniversary also coincides with a refresh of the 125-year-old building. The ground floor renovation leans further into the building’s heritage character, with burgundy and mustard palette, framed walls showcasing sporting memorabilia, famous locals and moments from Darlinghurst’s history, alongside playful new branding that heroes Lord Bob himself.
The outdoor spaces have also had a refresh, featuring new planting by local Stanley Greens, picnic tables along Stanley Street and umbrellas to make the most of the sun-soaked rooftop. Two 100-inch screens have been added for major sporting events, and the bottle shop range has also expanded.
“The concept has always been simple – be the best local pub in Darlinghurst. The inspiration behind the refresh is a return to that core idea. We want to ensure that the pub experience continues to resonate in 2026,” says co-owner Lewis Barnes.
“The nostalgic menu is our way of celebrating 125 years of classic pub food, paying tribute to some of Australia’s most iconic dishes. And as a thank you to our loyal locals, we’ve kept the prices just as nostalgic!”

The limited edition menu revisits familiar classics rather than reinventing. Fairy bread returns as a bar snack for just $10, the sausage sanga ($10) nods to the Bunnings weekend staple, and chicken kiev ($15) appears in its classic form.
The Gaytime cocktail ($15) draws on the caramel and biscuit flavours of the iconic ice cream, translated into a dessert-style drink. Regulars can wash it all down with two Tooheys schooners, Old or New, for $12.50 throughout April 2026.
Beyond the limited edition menu, the broader food offering continues under Group Head Chef Vaughan Chapman, whose six years within Universal Hotels informs a menu built around pub staples alongside lighter options such as poke bowls, share plates and daily specials.
Highlights include the delicious Lemon Pepper Squid, the incredibly flavourful Garlic Prawns, and pub classics such as Fish & Chips, Grilled Humpty Doo Barramundi and the outstanding Schnitzel Classic. With parmesan and herb-crumbed chicken breast, served with chips, a green salad, and your choice of mushroom, peppercorn, or classic gravy, it’s golden, it’s crispy and it’s packed with flavour.
The 125-year milestone comes as Stanley Street re-establishes itself as a dining and nightlife destination. With Claret Club recently opening and Bones Ramen continuing to draw steady trade, the strip is attracting renewed investment – including a $5 million streetscape upgrade by the City of Sydney, set to begin in 2027.
The Lord Roberts’ refresh positions the long-standing pub within that broader momentum, balancing heritage character with what the neighbourhood wants in 2026. Open 7 days from 10am til’ late, The Lord Roberts enters its 125th year with an updated format, a limited-run anniversary menu and a renewed role on Stanley Street and Darlinghurst.
