Introduction to Indigenous art with Stephen Gilchirst
As part of the exhibiton “Scratching the Surface”, an exhibition of works by Indigenous Australian artists who work with and about the surface, Stephen Gilchrist will give a lecture on Indigenous Australian Art.
Belonging to the Yamatji people of the Inggarda language group of northwest Western Australia, Stephen Gilchrist is a writer, curator and lecturer who has worked with the Indigenous Australian collections of the National Gallery of Australia, Canberra (2003–2005), the British Museum, London (2008), the National Gallery of Victoria, Melbourne (2005–2010) and the Hood Museum of Art, Dartmouth College (2011–2013). He has a Bachelor of Arts with Honours from the University of Western Australia, Perth and a Master’s in Arts Politics from the Tisch School of the Arts, New York University.
