Epson launches four new EcoTank printers: ET-4950 Reviewed

With Epson maintaining its position as the number one large ink tank printer vendor worldwide and with cumulative sales topping over 100 million units, the company has launched four new multi-function models in its incredibly popular and more sustainable EcoTank range.

We spent a week with the Epson EcoTank ET-4950 and have got to say, it’s an absolute beast of a machine. The first thing we love about these printers is that they are cartridge-free – that’s right, no cartridges that need constant replacing. These come with up to two years’ worth of ink in the box, however, our testing has found that they last significantly longer which is a bonus!

With an integrated high-capacity ink tank system, it comes with enough ink to print up to 6,600 pages in black and 5,500 pages in colour without worrying about ongoing ink replacement and costs. This also means less user intervention due to fewer replaceable parts, giving you back time to invest in yourself and your business.

Additional low-cost ink can be bought in convenient high-volume bottles that have a drip-free nozzle and resealable cap for easy storage and refilling. Epson ink bottles incorporate a unique key system whereby each bottle is keyed so that it only fits into the corresponding ink tank on the printer, thus preventing mis-filling or spillage.

When it comes to printing, this powerhouse has zero warm-up time and a very fast first page out time. No waiting around if you’re in a rush. Not only did it print extraordinarily fast, but it did so with exceptional image quality picking up fine detail lacking in ordinary printers.

The Epson EcoTank printers support the latest wireless standard, IEEE 802.11 b/g/n/k/v/r, and connectivity options include Epson Smart Panel, Email Print, Epson ScanSmart, AirPrint, WiFi, and WiFi Direct®, which means no router is required, providing users with greater coverage and faster speeds.

We were able to perform printer and scanner operations easily from our iOS and Android mobile devices as well as on PCs loaded with both Windows and Linux. We printed out emails, high-quality photos, and labels with the ET-4950 without any issues. We found the text looked sharp while the colours looked sufficiently saturated for a great end result.

The duplex scanner impressed us too with its 30-page auto document feeder. We were able to load it up and leave it unattended while it scanned multiple pages of documents at a time. So no need to sit there and manually add each page – it will really transform your workflow with fast, efficient and high resolution scanning.

One particular bonus with the ET-4950 is that it has fax capabilities! You can fax as fast as three seconds per page, save up to 100 pages in memory and store up to 60 speed dialling numbers. By using its included PC-Fax, you can even send a colour fax right from your computer. It is a great way to save time and paper and makes this a complete all-in-one device.
