Avenue Road Café’s interior has just been refreshed to coincide with the launch of its unique new menu. This neighbourhood gem offers food and drinks unlike anywhere else in Sydney.
Known for its tasty, fresh food with an Asian/Indian influence, the new menu features reinterpretations of breakfast classics such as Eggs Benedict (The Ave Benedict) – crispy duck, poached eggs, cauliflower and quinoa cous cous, dukkah and apple cider hollandaise with sourdough, as well as Palak Lamb Eggs – slow cooked lamb shoulder with spiced cherry tomato sauce feta, nuts, gremolata and poached eggs on sourdough; and roast pumpkin bruschetta, with poached eggs, halloumi, hummus, pine nuts, dukkah and basil.
The Lunch menu also shines with super-generous burgers such as Southern fried chicken, pulled pork, and beef and bacon as well as Asian fusion dishes like the succulent spiced prawn masala pappadum – a slow-cooked Tandoori lamb melt; and a pakora wrap featuring a vegetable fritter and the chef’s sweet mango chutney. Avenue’s spiced pumpkin soup and poached chicken sandwich are also favourites while lighter options include squid and apple salad and crispy-skin barramundi which is served with sweet potato crisps sprinkled on top which is quite unique and a definite highlight on the menu.
To accompany your meal, you must try some of the delicious Double Roasters coffee for an instant pick-me-up or a cold-pressed juice as a healthy alternative. You can’t go wrong with the Green Cleanser, Refresher, or our favourite, the Healthy Start with carrot, celery, beetroot, and ginger – all full of natural goodness. If you like alcohol with your breakfast, no problem as the menu features a wine and beer selection for you to enjoy as well.
Kids are well catered for too with smiley face pancakes, mini-burgers and toasties plus mini-milkshakes crowned with hundreds and thousands. The venue’s recently rejuvenated interior features a fresh, modern take on an Art Deco theme, inspired by the building’s heritage past. Crisp white walls, fresh greenery, retro banquette seating and framed Art Deco prints surround the café’s focal point: a spectacular light installation featuring multiple pastel vintage pendant lights.
Avenue Road Café is a long-time favourite among Mosman locals and with the quality new menu and modernised space, it will continue to be so for some time to come.
