Betty’s Burgers Is Taking On the Great Aussie Pub Parmi
There is an unwritten contract between an Aussie and their pub parmi. It will be generous. It will come with chips – proper chips, not a garnish. It will feel like a meal worth having. For years, the pub held up its end of the deal.
New national research suggests Australians are quietly reassessing whether it still does. Nearly half surveyed say a proper pub-quality meal isn’t worth what they’re currently being asked to pay for it. More than half are more conscious of what they spend eating out than two years ago. The parma hasn’t lost its appeal. Its price tag has.
Premium Australian burger brand, Betty’s Burgers, has launched their biggest burger yet – and they’ve put the chips inside it. The Loaded Parmi Burger is available now in all 75 Betty’s restaurants nationwide for $15.95: crispy RSPCA Certified chicken breast, triple cheese blend, bacon, fresh tomatoes, tomato relish and Betty’s signature seasoned fries, not on the side but loaded directly into the bun. A full pub classic, in one hand, for less than half the price of most pub versions.
“The pub parmi is sacred in this country – and rightly so,” said Betty’s Head of Culinary, Jonathan Alston. “It’s not just a meal – it’s a ritual. We wanted to honour that ritual and do it the Betty’s way: fresh, generous, made to order, with the chips where they belong – inside the burger. The Loaded Parmi is our biggest, most substantial burger yet, and at $15.95 we think it’s the best-value parmi in the country.”
Made for the Moment
Australians have always understood that a good game needs a good feed. Nearly 1 in 3 say a hearty, filling meal is what turns a game night into a proper occasion – and more than 1 in 5 go further, saying the meal they eat watching live sport matters just as much as the match itself. Not almost as much. Just as much. The parmi, it turns out, was never just a side story.
It’s Not a Parmi Without Chips
1 in 3 Australians say a meal needs to include chips to feel like a proper pub feed – rising to nearly half of those under 35. In Victoria, where the parma debate runs deepest, more than 1 in 3 say the chicken parma is the meal that best captures the feeling of a pub night, the highest of any state.
“Chips. Always chips. It’s not a side consideration – it’s the rule,” said Alston. “So when we set out to build this, putting the fries on the side wasn’t an option. They go in the burger. That’s the whole point.”
Betty’s Burgers is known for its fresh, made-to-order burgers, quality ingredients and nostalgic beachside charm. Since launching in Noosa in 2014, Betty’s has grown to 75 restaurants nationwide.
Betty’s Loaded Parmi Burger – their biggest burger yet, chips already inside – is available now in all 75 Betty’s Burger’s restaurants for $15.95, for a limited time. The Parmi & Beer bundle is available in-restaurant only for $22.
