The Hideaway: Bondi Junction’s Underground Restaurant With Late-Night Cocktails & Live Music
The Hideaway is Bondi Junction’s long-awaited all-night drinking and dining destination – an underground restaurant and cocktail bar drawing on New York’s after-dark dining culture.
Fresh off a multi-million dollar transformation, the subterranean space channels the spirit of basement steakhouses and dimly lit bars, where energy gradually shifts from dinner to cocktails and late-night entertainment.
The menu, curated by RJ lines and executed by Chef James Tai (formerly of two-hatted Automata Restaurant), is built around exceptional produce, quality meat, house made sauces, and is designed for both sharing and solo dining.
Highlights include a dry-aged pork chop crumbed in its own crackling and cooked in clarified butter; buttermilk fried chicken with pickled kohlrabi and Oscietra caviar; a dry-aged beef burger with smoked beef-fat onion, and a nostalgic banana split with fried banana fritters and buttermilk ice cream. A caviar experience featuring pairings of Champagne, vodka, gin and a signature Caviar Martini, bringing theatre and interaction directly to the table.
The cocktail list leans on classic technique with a modern edge, with drinks like the Hideaway Martini (Papa Salt gin, Grey Goose vodka, Italicus, Lillet blanc, pickled onion) and Spring at the Oxford (Hendrick’s gin, yellow Chartreus, sweet vermouth & citrus). Beyond the bar, a dedicated wine cellar houses a curated selection spanning Australian and New Zealand producers alongside bottles from across the globe.

Accessed via a dual-entry staircase that draws guests down into the heart of the space, the venue is designed as a destination in its own right: an immersive, multi-layered experience where dining, drinks, and ambiance change with the rhythm of the evening.
“We wanted a space where people could come anytime, day or night, and just get away from the world,” says Mitch Rose. “From spritzes and oysters through to martinis and late-night pours, it’s designed to shape the mood of the room and turn a quick drink into something you stay for,” says Rose. Live music complements rather than dominates a warm, shifting backdrop that builds in energy as the evening progresses.
The Hideaway launches as part of Bondi Junction’s broader evolution as a style, dining and nightlife precinct. It fills a genuine gap: the kind of premium, multi-experience venue restaurant, cocktail bar, live music destination that Eastern Suburbs residents have historically had to travel into the CBD or Double Bay to find. This is a venue built on the conviction that Bondi Junction is ready for its own after-dark identity.
