Benny’s: New Waterfront Restaurant Hits Cronulla
Benny’s is an impressive new restaurant that has just opened its doors in Cronulla.
In what is set to become the next hot-spot in The Shire, this new waterfront venue is conveniently located just behind Cronulla train station and offers some stunning views of beautiful Gunnamatta Bay.
Benny’s blends a timeless yet trendy aesthetic with sandstone columns, brass fittings, and green tiles, creating a Mediterranean-inspired “mi casa, su casa” vibe that transports guests to their Euro-summer dreams whilst welcoming and encouraging them to stay for a while. And thanks to its amazing views and delicious menu, you certainly won’t be in a hurry to leave!
Hatted Chef RJ Lines (ex One Penny Red) leads the kitchen with a menu that’s made for the coast and embodies his philosophy: “Let the produce speak for itself… just straightforward, delicious dishes that keep people coming back.”
The menu is filled with Mediterranean and Australian dishes that showcase the freshest, local, and seasonal ingredients. Starter highlights include some shucked to order Sydney rock oysters, Roasted QLD King Prawns, Free Range Chicken Parfait and the outstanding Bluefin Tuna Carpaccio featuring delicate slices of bluefin tuna with pickled eschallot, capers and chives. Light, simple and incredibly tasty!
Mains highlights include the Rosemary Rolled Porchetta, Fresh Rigatoni Pasta, the scrumptious Panko Crumbed Whole Eggplant Schnitty, and our top pick: the QLD Barramundi Fillet with Clams (“Barra in a Bag”). Featuring a barramundi fillet, clams, and cherry tomatoes baked in a bag, it’s clean, juicy and full of flavour.
If you like a quality steak, you can opt for the 800g Jacks Creek rib eye or the 350g Rangers Valley MB6+ sirloin (both served with fries) and we highly recommend adding some Crisp Brussels Sprouts as a side dish for some super crispy deliciousness. The restaurant also caters to beachgoers who like to pop in and out with crispy beer-battered fish and chips available for takeaway plus gelato bars and ice cream cones.
To wash it all down, Benny’s cocktail list is quite spectacular. Curated by Neilson Braid (Australian Gin Champion of the Year), the cocktail list is light, refreshing, and infused with locally grown botanicals and flora for easy drinking. Signatures include a boysenberry gin sour “Bay Club”, or a citrusy “Bubbles by the Bay Spritz” topped with prosecco. Other highlights to watch out for in the upcoming warmer months include the “Old Summer Town”, “Bahama Colada” and “Mr Brown” – the perfect summer companion with gin, champagne, orange, and mint.
