Christmas Menu @ Alibi Bar & Kitchen, Woolloomooloo
If you’ve stayed at or visited five-star hotel Ovolo Woolloomooloo over the past year, chances are you’ve set foot in their ground floor vegan restaurant, Alibi. Located in a heritage building on the Woolloomooloo wharf overlooking the harbour, it’s set in the perfect spot to grab a bite with family and friends this festive period.
They have just unveiled their 100% plant-based Christmas menu to serve up a fresh and clean Christmas spread which is available at $80 per person until Christmas eve. Having used the festive flavours of Christmas favourites to inspire re-imagined 100% plant-based creations, the menu is sure to be a hit during the silly season.
You can enjoy a glass of ‘EggNOT’, a deliciously spicy and booze-filled vegan concoction involving silken tofu, before sitting down to the merriment-filled main event. Before getting stuck into it, you can decide whether to pair your dishes with some beverages (alcoholic: $60 per person, non-alcoholic: $45pp). We certainly recommend the former if you’re not driving for a sumptuous dining experience.
The food hits the table quite speedily starting with the Heirloom Tomato Gazpacho with basil crisp and fennel flowers, followed by Walnut Crackers with celery pearls, preserved loquat and macadamia butter. If you’ve opted for the alcohol pairing, the latter comes with some Japanese Kunizakari Saika to prepare your mouth for what’s to come – delicious!
Next up is the Smoked Baba Ganoush with za’atar lavosh and kiss peppers, followed by our favourite, the Nectarine Salad with grape, pomegranate, spinach, and herbs – a completely refreshing summertime salad that is paired perfectly with a Domaine Naturaliste ‘Discovery’ chardonnay.
For the mains, there’s the Mushroom Wellington and Stuffed Seitan Roast accompanied by salads and sides, to decorate your table and satisfy your Christmas Feast Beast. Since no Christmas is complete without too many sweets to choose from, let Alibi’s Mulled Wine Granita cleanse the palette before dessert.
Pavlova with passionfruit and mango and maple comb is an absolute standout and would also have to be the best pairing of the night (if you’re on the alcoholic beverage package). Accompanied by Frogmore Creek Iced Riesling, it’s a match made in heaven! Once the Cherry and Chocolate Bliss Balls finally come out, it only ensures you will end the night on a high.
