Kenny Rens, Woollahra
Japanese sashimi restaurant Kenny Rens has just launched its new winter menu. Influenced by the discipline, passion, heritage and innovation that is characteristic of Japanese cuisine, the menu is filled with loads of beautifully presented dishes for punters to dive into.
The venue offers contemporary Japanese dining that is authentic, but not traditional, prepared using the finest ingredients and characterised by bold flavours and simple yet elegant presentation. For a light start, we’d highly recommend the mixed Sashimi platter. This Japanese delicacy is a must featuring thinly sliced raw meat and fish with a side of wasabi. Simply mouth-watering.
Other appetizers and lighter dishes to enjoy include Mixed Nigiri Sushi, Salmon Tartare, Hamachi Usuzukuri, Zucchini Flower, a variety of Sushi Rolls, and our favourite – the Lobster Tail Lettuce Cup. This outstanding dish comes with tomato salsa and umami cream. With only two pieces, it’s very light on the belly but heavy on flavour.
For something more substantial, there’s the Market Fish, Braised Beef Short Rib, Glacier 51 Toothfish, and slow cooked Pork Belly Kakuni with ginger tempura chips and rich reduction sauce. On our visit, we sampled the special of the day – Steamed Barramundi Fillet with sautéed wombok and spicy oyster sauce. The barramundi was soft, moist, delicate and super delicious while the sauce added an extra dimension to the flavour. A must-try dish!
The salads here are pretty damn good too and we’d recommend giving the Salmon Citrus Salad a try. The grilled salmon fillet comes with spanish onion, cucumber, fresh orange segments, purple cabbage, fresh fennel and lemon vinaigrette. We found it to be refreshing, light, and full of goodness.
If you like your Japanese and have a bit of coin to splash out on a fancy dinner, head over to Woollahra and check it out. Kenny Ren’s Restaurant is open Tuesday to Sunday (5pm to 10pm) while the Poke Bar is open 7 days from 10:30am to 9pm.
