Pelicano Restaurant & Bar, Double Bay
If you were to find yourself wandering up Bay Street in Double Bay late on a Friday or Saturday night, you’d notice a buzzing hive of activity once you reach the Cooper Street intersection.
Located here is one of Sydney’s most prestigious and trusted venues, Pelicano. With European inspired cuisine and nightlife, this stylish restaurant and bar features fresh seasonal cuisine, signature craft cocktails, and an elegant yet inviting ambiance. With lounge-style seating and pop art on the walls, it’s a great spot for an after-work tipple.
The drinks menu is quite extensive so whatever your poison is, there’s no doubt you’ll be well catered for. The cocktail list is truly impressive with highlights including Hey Captain (Havana 7yo rum, cacao white liqueur, banana liqueur, tio pepe, spiced bitters), Red Bliss (absolut elyx vodka, vanilla liqueur, raspberry puree, mumm champagne), Coconut & Mandarin Margarita (olmeca reposado tequila, napoleon mandarin liqueur, lime juice, coconut syrup, fresh mandarin) and Festivity (Pelicano’s version of the Espresso Martini) with absolut elyx vodka, coffee and popcorn syrup with a hint of avion espresso tequila.
But the fun doesn’t end there. Pelicano offer a seasonal menu designed for sharing which is just perfect after a hard day’s work. From the lightly torched Petuna Ocean Trout and slow cooked Lamb Ribs to the Turkish Meatballs, there’s plenty to get your teeth into. For a start, we’d recommend the Pesto & Sundried Tomato Arancini with Aioli (which is crunchy on the outside, soft and creamy on the inside) or the Rocket, Raddichio, Walnuts & Pomelo. This is a simple yet effective combination with the walnuts adding sweetness to the bitterness of the rocket – not to mention a delectable crunch.
For something more substantial, the juicy Roast Chook would be the top choice accompanied by romesco, burnt cauliflower puree and jus. This delicious family favourite will make you feel like you’re enjoying it in your own living room. For something less meaty, the Grilled Zucchini fits the bill perfectly with couscous and pomegranate vinaigrette. We certainly licked the plate clean on our visit!
Reminding us a little of the old Hugo’s in Kings Cross, Pelicano is the perfect spot for an after-work feast or a late night boogie with cocktail in hand. For a quality night out, make sure to head on down.
