The Royal Hotel Paddington
Paddington’s iconic The Royal Hotel has recently been updated with an interiors refresh and new menus to bring the venue into the 21st Century without losing its historical charm.
Located at the famous Fiveways, The Royal Hotel stretches over four stunning levels, each with its own unique ambiance making the venue the perfect destination for lunch, dinner, or a relaxed drink while watching your favourite sporting team or function.
We recently ventured out to experience the pub’s new energy first-hand. First stop was the Royal Bar on the ground floor – best described as a pub patron’s sports hub with a hearty bar menu of Pulled Pork Burgers and Hot Wings. The setting is complete with comfy leather sofas, bar stools and live screening of all the top sporting events.
Next we headed upstairs to The Verandah – an impressive gastro-pub with an outside terrace that overlooks Paddington’s picturesque streets. Here we sat down to sample some of the gourmet fare on offer. The Verandah’s new menu is a pure delight with a great selection of exciting flavours including everything from Crab Linguine to Kangaroo Loin to standard pub-grub such as Chicken Schnitzel, Burgers, and Fish & Chips.
If sharing is your thing, there are some delicious share plates on offer including Freshly Shucked Oysters, Salt & Pepper Squid, Duck Liver Parfait, and Fish Tacos. The tacos were a good size and we can also confirm, delicious. A great starter before indulging in one of the mains. The salads too were a generous size – particularly the Vitality Salad with organic quinoa, marinated feta, young spinach, heirloom tomatoes, roasted seeds and green salsa. Add Smoked Chicken and you won’t walk out hungry – a well balanced and absolutely delectable dish.
With a bunch of sides, desserts, and even a kids menu, there is something here to please everybody. If you’re in the mood to kick on after your meal, you’ll find the Elephant Room on Level 3 – a sophisticated destination for after work drinks or private functions. Or you can take in the stunning views of Sydney’s city skyline on the Rooftop – an impressive location for your favourite cocktails.
A long-time favourite amongst locals, this historical hotel has certainly been injected with a new energy. If you find yourself in Paddington anytime soon, make sure to check The Royal Hotel out.
