Darlinghurst staple, The Strand Hotel has turned a new page, sporting a new look, a new direction and an all new menu in the Public Bar that will have burger lovers talking.

With Toby Wilson (exec chef of Ricos Tacos and The Norfolk) and Solotel’s Executive Chef Hamish Ingham behind the new burger menu, you know it’s going to be a knock out.

The Strand’s main menu now purely focuses on burgers – six to be exact, with hero burgers including the Smashed Burger with American cheese, bacon, burger sauce and pickles, The Hot Bird burger, with fried chicken, black pepper hot honey and iceberg and chive slaw, and the Fresh Fish burger, with crumbed ling and house tartare.

“We’ve looked at what everyone else is doing and realised what the neighbourhood was missing – a seriously good burger. Between Hamish and I we’ve come up with six cracking burgers that cater to a few tastes – we’ve got the falafel burger, the classic smash burger, the fish burger and my personal favourite, the smashed prawn burger with shredded fennel slaw, jalapeno pickle and tartare.

“We’re celebrating the new menu launch [Wednesday 20 August] with $5 burgers for 5 days only – our way of inviting the neighbours, regulars, and anyone passing through to come in and road test the lot – the perfect excuse to grab a mate and work your way through the menu without breaking the bank,” said Toby.

The interiors of The Strand have had a complete glow up, sporting an elevated atmosphere, with moody art deco touches. Gone are the carpets and in are the original, marble tiled floors which were hiding underneath. The booths have been reupholstered, there’s a new colour palette with a fresh lick of paint, and the fireplace has been reinstated and made a feature – perfect for cosy, cooler nights.

At the bar, there is now a new cocktail list featuring four signature cocktails. The Aloe Sour (with gin, mango wine, aloe vera, lemon and whites, $21) and Bulls on Parade (pisco, macadamia, passionflower, lime and paprika oil, $21) promise to be a crowd favourite, plus there is a tightly curated wine list featuring Australian, New Zealand and French varieties.

The Strand’s $5 Burgers for 5 Days starts Wednesday 20 August 2025 and runs until Sunday 24 August 2025. No bookings required.
