Wunder Wunder, the side project of Aaron Shanahan and Benjamin Plant of Miami Horror, will be in Australia to play some shows later this month. We caught up with them to chat all things Wunder Wunder.
How did you get your start in the music industry?
I’ve been playing music for a number of years but it started getting professional when I joined Miami Horror as a drummer and for my production knowledge. Beforehand, I was in a band called Puppetman where I wrote songs, sung and played guitar.
Best part of what you do?
Getting lost in the musical world where you forget your worries and play.
And the worst part?
Inconsistent cash flow and disruptions in routine and sleep when on the road, but it’s a small price to pay for doing your passion all the time.
Any interesting experiences you can share?
We just recently bribed a police officer in LA with a Wunder Wunder CD. He let us off for having back lights that were out
Favourite album of all time and why?
It changes but at the moment it could be John Lennon – Plastic Ono Band. I keep coming back to it and it never fails me. It’s like a reliable friend.
Best live performance that you’ve ever seen?
Cornelius. I have seen him twice. He has a show that is synchronized with visuals and other happenings that was way ahead of its time. It blew my mind.
Favourite venues to hang out in?
Don’t have one but a favorite place I’ve played at was a natural amphitheatre outside of Perth.
Take us through a typical day in the life of Wunder Wunder.
Wake up, get out of bed, drag a comb across my head… ACTUALLY, wake up, meditate, yoga or run, juice/breakfast, music, music, music, meditate, music, music, relax, watch a comedy, sleep and repeat.
What advice would you give to someone looking at getting involved in the music industry?
Find your voice and your thing that only you are and develop it and work it hard by letting inspiration drive you.
Any news or final comments?
We are playing two shows in Australia, so come and get to know us fellow friends! Playing 17th in Sydney Beach Rd and then 24th at Shebeen in Melbourne (September 2014). We promise it will be full of energy and happy vibes. PLUS we will be selling our white vinyl there!
