Get Your Doof Sticks Out! Tixel Reveals The Hottest 100 Events of 2023 and their 2024 Event Predictions
As Aussies’ around the country gathered to count down last weekend’s Triple J Hottest 100 crowning audio supremacy, Tixel, Australia’s leading ticket resale marketplace, had been busy compiling their exclusive list of Hottest 100 Events of 2023.
The types of live events Aussies coveted the most were diverse, from the hottest international pop musicians to both established and emerging festival brands, sporting matches, musicals and ballet, shows from nostalgia artists, rappers and DJs, events celebrating WorldPride, and bashes in far-reaching regional towns.
Tixel’s key insights and predictions from Triple J’s Hottest 100 countdown…
– No surprises here – US rapper, Doja Cat track “Paint The Town Red” took the top spot in Triple J’s Hottest 100! Now, last time she performed on Aussie shores was back in 2019. Is this latest crowning a cheeky sign that she’s gearing up to hit us with an Aussie tour again? We think a Doja Cat tour down under might just be on the cards and we’re betting Aussie’s will go absolutely bonkers for those tickets!
– Just like G Flip smashes records with a whopping 7 entries in Triple J’s Hottest 100 for 2023, they are now gearing up to take to Aussie stages in February and March. These gigs are guaranteed to sky rocket the list for Tixel’s Hottest 100 Events list for 2024.
– Now, let’s be frank, Dom Dolla isn’t just dropping bangers; he’s straight-up dominating the live music scene. Snagging #3 for his song “Saving Up” and #4 for “Rhyme Dust”, his gigs are more than just shows – they’re pure fire. And if that’s not enough to get you amped, he bagged #4 on Tixel’s Hottest 100 list of Events for 2023 for his shows at Sidney Myer Music Bowl.
Here were some of the trends and call-outs from Tixels’ Hottest 100 List of Events for 2023 list…
– Many Australians are in their Country music era — American superstar Luke Combs took out the #1 top spot on the list with his sold out shows that hit every capital city in the country. And Zach Bryan came in at #6 after huge demand for his once-off show pushed him from St Kilda’s Catani Gardens to the larger Flemington Raceway. Morgan Wallen also pulled solid demand for his shows, accompanying his record-setting chart domination with “Last Night.”
– It was no surprise that mainstream blockbuster artists fared well — Coldplay came in second with a hugely popular (including many interstate punters) two-night run at Perth’s Optus Stadium ahead of announcing east coast dates in 2024 for their Music of the Spheres tour. Harry Styles, who arguably kicked off the international artist arena circuit (and the trend of musicians being convinced to do a shoey on stage) in February also drove high demand. The 1975 and K-Pop queens BLACKPINK also made the top 10, with other artists like Ed Sheeran, Foo Fighters, Arctic Monkeys, Red Hot Chili Peppers and Robbie Williams all making it into the top 100.
– It wasn’t all about music though, as art and culture fans clamoured for tickets to Melbourne artist RONE’s immersive art exhibition on an abandoned floor of Flinders Street Station and no surprises here, throngs of footy fans joined Tixel waitlists in anticipation of scoring a ticket to the Collingwood Vs. Brisbane AFL Grand Final.
– While we didn’t see any festivals in the top 10, demand was high for both single day and multi-day fests with events like Beyond the Valley, Pitch Music & Arts, Lost Paradise, Strawberry Fields, Groovin the Moo, St Jerome’s Laneway Festival, Harbourlife, Birdsville Big Red Bash and Mundi Mundi Bash making the Hottest 100 Events.
