OUZO Brings Bold Mediterranean Flavours To Darlinghurst
David Cooper and Brett Ayton, the powerhouse duo behind Tommy’s Mexican restaurants, have introduced a fresh dining experience to Darlinghurst with their latest venture, OUZO.
Opened on 18 October 2024 at 259 Victoria Street, OUZO offers a vibrant fusion of flavours inspired by the culinary traditions of Greece, France, Spain, Turkey, and Italy.
Drawing from Cooper and Ayton’s food tour through the region, OUZO captures the essence of the Mediterranean coastline with rustic dishes, seasonal ingredients, and the relaxed spirit of leisurely dining. Chef Ignacio Morales, formerly of Ikaria, brings his expertise to the forefront, infusing the menu with a modern spin on traditional recipes, with an emphasis on charcoal-grilled, bold, smoky flavours.
OUZO offers a two-level experience. Downstairs, the walk-in-only bar serves Mediterranean-inspired drinks and small bites, perfect for casual drop-ins or pre-dinner drinks. Expect classic cocktails with a twist including a selection of martinis (Served -8 0°C), some refreshing aperitifs and a carefully curated wine list.
There are also some spectacular house cocktails including Zorba (Vodka, St.Germain Elderflower, Blue Curacao, Citrus, Salted Air Foam), Yia Yia’s (Olive oil washed-Havana Club Spiced, Metaxa 7 Star, Disaronno, Honey, Mixed Citrus, Chamomile, Whey, Walnut) and Opa (Gin, Campari, Tanica, Seasonal Berries, Rosemary, Lemon, Whites) which are all at the top of the must-try list.
Upstairs, the 100-seat restaurant centres around an open kitchen featuring a charcoal grill, imparting bold, smoky flavours to a menu that showcases the best of coastal cuisine. Enticing starter options include the delicious Taramasalata (Tarama with cured red mullet roe and lemon), the delightful Hummus (Chickpeas with tahini, zhoug and fried chickpeas) and the top-notch Eggplant Labneh (Burnt Eggplant with sumac and harissa oil).
When it comes to the mains, you’re in for a real treat with highlights including the Slow-Cooked Lamb Shoulder, Duck, Roasted Cauliflower, the melt-in-your-mouth Coral Trout and the outstanding MBS7-8 Tajima Wagyu Sirloin with Pedro Ximénez reduction and chives – juicy, rich and utterly delicious!
