Vizio Caffe e Cucina
Located in Woolloomooloo’s William Street, Vizio Caffe e Cucina is a thoroughly modern venue that mixes the best of Instagrammable food trends with classic Italian style.
Inspired by Italian flavours but given a contemporary interpretation with a distinctly Australian vibe, Vizio Caffe e Cucina’s offering is a cheeky and decadent indulgence that will make you feel good and leave you wanting more.
The industrial interiors are warmed with aged wood and magnificent black framed mirrors that give the illusion of a larger space. While the black ceilings and shades of cream and beige are softened with sections of greenery and plants hanging from the ceiling. Sharp yet welcoming, Vizio offers bar style seating, booth spaces and caters to everything from the cosy catch-up, family brunch or social dinner.
Breakfast is a hearty affair with options including an extravagant Acai Bowl, Wholemeal granola dust pancakes with poached pear, sweetened fresh ricotta, walnut, maple syrup and chocolate crumb or the decadent Crab Benedict with sourdough, herbed spanner crab, baby spinach, poached egg, hollandaise sauce, asparagus and micro herbs. The lunch offering includes some of the popular breakfast items for a seamless brunch transition as well as a selection of homemade pasta.
But it’s in the evenings where Vizio steps it up a level with an exceptional selection of over 30 different cheeses and 30 cured meats, purchased in 50gm portions to create the ultimate, customised antipasto board. The variety and selection of cheese and meats on offer is truly world class, with a diverse mix of Australian and international products that is bound to induce pure joy.
The entire Vizio dinner menu was created specifically for sharing, just as in Italian tradition. Starter highlights include the Fiori di Zucca (zucchini flowers stuffed with smoked ricotta and capsicum coulis) and our favourite, the Beetroot Symphony (a beetroot salad with gorgonzola and nasturtium). Finger-licking good!
They also offer a vast array of mains with everything from Smoked Emu Tartare with parmesan crisps, pepperberry and vincotta to Raviolo Ripieno with prawns, sea grapes and school prawns. But our main picks would have to be the Gnocchi Rosolati (with pumpkin, burnt butter, and amaretti) and the Catch of the Day. On our visit, it happened to be monkfish – apparently the sea’s most delicious monster. Combined with chargrilled carrots, spinach, tarragon pastella and gel, this is easily the ‘catch of the night’. Absolutely flawless.
It’s clear that Vizio have gone for a more higher end menu so expect to spend more than a few dollars here for smaller portion sizes – the focus appears to be more on quality rather than quantity. But with a truly one-of-a-kind offering that combines the best of Italy with fresh, Australian inspired flavours, Vizio will undoubtedly become one of Woolloomooloo’s most talked about new dining destinations.
