Marrickville is fast becoming one of the inner west’s hottest foodie hangouts. And the suburb’s premier destination for wholesome eating is Warren & Holt. This whole-foods haven is a place where “people can experience restaurant quality café fare made from real food.” That is, no preservatives, no refined sugars, no refined oils, sustainable, ethical and where possible, organically farmed.
Having just acquired former Tetsuya’s chef, Joey Ingram, Warren & Holt serves up unprocessed and unrefined, nutritious dishes with an emphasis on seasonal produce. In an attempt to highlight the importance of mindful eating, the menu is clean and well thought out, endeavouring to ensure customers leave feeling nourished. Dishes are allergen friendly with a good balance between omnivorous and plant-based options and always refined sugar free.
Dishes to look out for include the 48-hour bone broth aimed at boosting immunity thanks to its collagen-enriched goodness, the gluten-free topsy-turvy quince and buckwheat hotcake, and the totally insta-worthy Good Health Bowl featuring roasted pumpkin, spiced cashew dip, miso roasted eggplant and a selection of lacto-fermented and roasted vegetables. A definite must-try!
Or you can ‘Spice Up Your Life’ by dressing up your favourite eggs with an aged chilli relish or keep it minimal and order the Warren Smash 2.0 featuring avo on sourdough with dukkah and beetroot lentil dhal. The bagels, by Brooklyn Boy Bagels, are pretty damn good too topped with cultured cream and scrumptious chia jam. We found ourselves licking our fingers clean after devouring one of these bad boys.
Warren & Holt now also produce some of its most popular made-in-house items for guests to take home including an aged chilli paste, kimchi, a maple granola mix and the signature triple nut butter. They will also introduce a rotation of “off-menu” dishes to keep things fresh for the locals.
Wash your food down with one of the amazing coffees, by Single O roasters, who pride themselves on their ethical and environmentally sound sourcing of coffee beans. And in line with their allergen friendly ethos, you’ll be able to choose from cold-pressed almond or coconut milk by Inside Out. Pair your coffee with a house-made vegan and gluten-free sweet treat for a guilt-free happy ending to your dining experience.
For a wholesome good meal in Marrickville, Warren & Holt is where it’s at.
