Buckle Cafe & Distillery Opens In Artarmon
Buckle Cafe & Distillery is a new 150-seater venue that has just opened inside a glass atrium alongside the heritage-listed 1 Frederick Street, Artarmon.
The cocktail bar and eatery aims to provide Lower North Shore locals with a unique inclusive experience, connecting cafe and cocktail culture, that offers something for everyone.
Buckle gets its name from Frank Buckle – a man who epitomised a life of breaking the mould. Frank was a renowned first-grade cricketer turned respected industrial architect responsible for the design of the heritage building that Buckle Cafe & Distillery sits alongside.
Frank’s legacy is that life is about the freedom to choose how to live your moments. Buckle is a testament to this same freedom; whatever you’re seeking, they’re here for it. This same approach also applies to sister venue and bistro – Depot Brewery – which has also just opened and will be a great spot for locals to have a beer and kick back with mates.
Responsible for bringing ‘full-of-flavour’and versatile feeds to Buckle Cafe & Distillery is General Manager, James Peters (who’s worked in high-energy bars to premium cafes around the country) and Executive Chef, Johnny Sercombe (who brings a wealth of culinary expertise from years working with renowned hospitality groups). With an unwavering focus on quality and value, they offer options that can seamlessly take customers from cafe lunch to evening dinner.
Brunch is served until 11:30am daily with the menu featuring a mix of classic eats. Tasty options to start your day include a Bacon & Egg Roll, Avocado On Toast, Corn Fritters, Acai Bowl, Eggs Your Way, and more. You can even enjoy Bowls and Smoothies all day as well as fresh baked treats until they’re sold out.
The lunch menu kicks in from midday right through to dinner. The menu switches to a more hearty offering, including the Tomato Penne Pasta, Rump Steak, Roast Pumpkin Salad, Cheeseburger, Beer Battered Fish & Chips, Reuben Sandwich and a totally scrumptious Falafel Bowl loaded with delectable falafel and other Mediterranean favourites like hummus, zucchini, quinoa, tomato, pickled onion, green dressing and dukkha.
They also offer some mouth-watering pizza options including the Margherita, Meat Lovers and a Vegetarian Supreme which is just full of flavour and freshness and is our number one pick. This one is loaded with a colourful range of veggies including mushrooms, olives, mozzarella, roast capsicum and red onion with napolitana sauce. So delicious and super satisfying!
Buckle’s dual vibe extends beyond its menu offering and into the space as a whole. In the middle of the venue – surrounded by cafe furniture, close by an industrial coffee machine and adjacent to a children’s activity area – is “Phoebe”, a 150L Copper Pot Still that will be commissioned to distil whisky alongside the house Buckle Gin and Buckle Vodka.
The cocktail list features standard favourites like the Buckle x Black Market Espresso Martini (Buckle Vodka, Black Market Cold Brew, Coffee Liqueur), house exclusives such as the Spiced Honey Daiquiri (Spiced Black Rum, Honey, Lime) and refreshing crowd-pleasers like the Limoncello Spritz (Limoncello, Sparkling Brut, Soda) which will be the perfect drink to sip this summer. Don’t miss their Happy Hour from 5-6pm every Monday to Friday where you can enjoy a glass of Buckle Gin or Vodka and a standard mixer, pints of beer and by-the-glass wine for only $10.
