Situated on level one of the iconic Robin Hood Hotel in Waverley is one of Sydney’s true hidden gems – Lorraine’s Bistro.
Not necessarily what you’d expect sitting on top of a pub, this amazing light filled venue features a stunning glass atrium roof and is the perfect space to kick back with friends and family for a drink and a good feed.
Lorraine’s Bistro are celebrating National Grilled Cheese Sandwich Day for the entire month starting from April 12th (2023) introducing a limited edition, luxe cheese and caviar toastie, paired with a flute of Mumm bubbles. Created by Hatted French chef, Clement Marchais, the decadent dish elevates the humble toastie to mouth-watering levels, bringing a slice of French indulgence to the East.
The toastie layers melted Comte and Gruyere cheeses, creating a rich and nutty flavour that is offset by tangy creme fraiche. Tart zucchini pickles and premium avruga caviar create a unique texture and flavour contrast, all encased in crisp brioche bread. This decadent sandwich is beautifully complemented by the crisp coolness of bubbly Mumm bubbles and is available for the next month for $25.
While you’re there, you will certainly want to check out the rest of the French inspired menu. Created by Executive Chef Clement Marchais, he uses his training and French heritage to play with traditional French cooking using modern Australian produce. A custom-built charcoal grill enhances the ingredients’ natural flavour to create simple and delicious dishes locals will want to enjoy again and again.
Designed for sharing, the new menu makes the most of local produce while using classic French techniques. Stand out dishes include Skull Island prawns served with a delectable blend of espelette pepper and koji butter; Confit Duck Pastilla and the refreshingly delicious Charred Leeks with compressed apple, hazelnut and truffle vinaigrette. Spectacular flavours that pair so nicely – a definite highlight!
Some of the other outstanding options include Chargrilled Cabbage with cashew creme fraiche and macadamia; Petit Pois with spring peas, zucchini flower and yuzu sabayon; and at the top of our list is the Corn Fed Chicken with roasted brioche jus and tarragon. So sweet with its deep, natural flavour, it’s absolutely scrumptious and will likely have you ordering seconds.
To wash it all down, you’re spoilt for choice with over 200 unique wines available from their wine room including many back vintages. There’s also an extensive cocktail list and six beer taps, ensuring there is the perfect drop for everyone. With three private function spaces, it’s a superb venue for birthday parties, corporate functions, engagement parties, wedding receptions or any other kind of shindig.
With its delicious food, extensive drinks menu, and super-friendly staff, there’s plenty for locals and visitors to enjoy. The venue is open Wednesday to Saturday for dinner.
