The Yum Cha Project Opens In Sydney’s CBD
With the opening of The Yum Cha Project at Grosvenor Place in Sydney’s CBD, those working from home now have a good reason to get back to the office.
The Yum Cha Project is an affordable and convenient 50-seater eatery that offers on-the-go or dine-in yum cha – the perfect go-to for lunch in the city.
With loud and bright Hong Kong vibes, the venue’s fit-out boasts bright yellow tiling, neon signage of a smiling dim sum and “Did Sum Body Say Yum Cha?”. The kiosk to order is a modern fit-out with marble counters, a sleek ribbed finish, illuminative lighting under the counter, and an open kitchen set-up.
The Yum Cha Project is the latest hospitality venture of highly respected restaurateur, Howin Chui, in partnership with Waiwing Lau, Jacky Huang & Colin Ho. All have a deep connection to the rich traditions of yum cha and have identified key areas for improvement in the Australian yum cha scene.
They noticed a need for more convenient options for delicious yum cha on the go, limited variety for solo diners or picky eaters, and long wait times. This realisation inspired them to create the Yum Cha Project, a venture offering a unique and exciting dining experience for the everyday person.
The menu includes a variety of traditional yum cha dishes including Classic BBQ Pork Bun, Classic Prain Dumpling, Vegetarian Dumpling, the super delicious Spinach and Prawn Dumpling, as well as Shallot Pancake, Combination and Vegetarian Fried Rice, Vegetarian Spring Rolls and Prawn Siu Mai.
There’s also a variety of modern dishes on the menu including the Cheeseburger Spring Roll (which tastes just like a cheeseburger, with added crunch), Peking Duck Pizza and the Shallot and Chicken Pizza which is packed full of flavour and the perfect size for a lunch-time snack.
Sweet options include Milky Custard Bun, Fried Milky Buns with Condensed Milk and Black Sesame Custard Bun and there’s also an extensive array of sauces at their ‘Sauce Station’. All meals and catering orders are served in their thoughtfully selected packaging, which utilises iconic takeaway boxes such as fries containers, hamburgers, and pizza boxes, making the convenience of carrying your yum cha easier but also familiar.
To wash it all down, there are a variety of beverages, including signature iced teas such as grapefruit jasmine green tea, lychee jasmine tea, and dark-roasted oolong milk tea. Toppings like Egg Pudding, Lychee Coconut Jelly and Pink Blossom Agar Pearl are also available for $1 each.
From their hot selection, you can get a Red Date and Longan Drink or Chrysanthemum and Goji, or hot teas like Jasmine or Lemon Grass and Ginger. If you want a truly authentic Yum Cha experience, beers include Tsingtao and Orion Tap Beer. House wines are also available, along with standard soft drinks.
The Yum Cha Project will be running a variety of initiatives to bring the buzz back to the CBD. They have just introduced a Happy Hour from 3pm where you can pick up a Tsingtao for only $3.50 paired with food. You won’t find a better deal anywhere else! Other Happy Hour offers include a $6 wine or Orion on tap for $12 which will go nicely with a $9.50 snack pack with southern season, fried chicken bites, fries, onions and capsicums.
The Yum Cha Project is a great addition to Grosvenor Place. With a mission to make yum cha more accessible, affordable and convenient, they have certainly succeeded.
